The Lady Leadership Podcast… the topic is in the title, but the power is in the conversation.
What does it mean to be a lady in leadership?
Why do we care?
And, what do we need to know?
I had the pleasure of joining Helga Svendsen’s podcast to dive into one of my favorite topics: Influence with Impact.
In the boardroom (or anywhere, really), influence isn’t just about making noise—it’s about understanding who’s in the room, what matters to them, and why. As I like to say, influence is just good communication on steroids!
In our chat we covered the subtle yet powerful art of connecting with decision-makers and peers alike—because sometimes, influence has to happen without the power of a title. It’s all about those informal, meaningful connections that really move the needle.
Let’s talk about team communication.
It’s not enough THAT we talk to each other, it’s also HOW we talk to each other that counts. And to get better at that we need to reflect, review and refine the process of our discussions, not just the content of them.
It’s like trying to get better at piano by playing for 10,000 hours without review or adjustment. The 10,000 hours of playing bad piano won’t make you an expert, but 10,000 hours that is constantly reviewed, refine and adjusted, definitely will.
Ed Frauenheim's insights about masculinity during our Spotlighting Success Webinar, really resonated with the work I do in gender equality. Women AND men are all limited by the stereotypes that dictate our cultural norms in society. Women as ‘nice’ and emotional care takers and home makers and men as ‘strong’ and stoic bread winners and financial providers.
Hey everyone, I recently had a chat with Luke Cook on Cuppa TV that I think you'll find interesting… if communication is of interest to you!
We talked about 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 and 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐮𝐩. We explored the hidden costs of those unspoken barriers that often go unnoticed..and there are many.
"𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘝𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴" is a conversation aimed at leaders who want to make a change. It's about breaking free from conformity and harnessing the power of genuine dialogue in the workplace.
If you're interested in making space for great ideas to flourish, check out our discussion in this video.
What happens when you put four passionate people in a room together talking about diversity? Magic! That’s what happens. 🌟 And not just because we all come from different backgrounds, but because our lenses into inclusion in the workplace are also so diverse. From Simon Dewar, Group CEO of BSI Digital Learning, to Kala Philips, CEO of BSI Learning institute and Nola Turner-Jensen, a Senior Aboriginal Research Fellow at Melbourne Uni to myself, Author of the Gender Penalty and When men lead women. The clip is my take on the importance of DEI from an interpersonal perspective… and it’s not just DEI as it stands today; it’s the outcome or goal of DEI - 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠. Diversity without understanding is just difference. It’s disruptive. But diversity with understanding is transformative. It creates belonging.
What does a conversation between two communication enthusiasts sound like?
Full!
Add to the agenda the specific ways men and women communicate and you get an extra level of nuance to play with.
This is what happened when I was interviewed by the delightful Christina Canters on her podcast Stand Out Get Noticed.
During our discussion, we delved into the obstacles that women encounter in the workplace particularly from a communication perspective.
What happens when you put two passionate, curious, and accomplished women together on a podcast… who happen to be long-term friends?
All of it happens!
Being interviewed by my good friend and founder of the Board Coaching Institute, Sally Parrish, was a rare treat. Given our work together over the years it made for a raw, honest and surprising conversation about gender equality and the concepts in my new book, The Gender Penalty. She pulls no punches in her interviews!
I know IWD has been and gone, but the need for the focus still remains.
Hence I’m sharing a recording of a fireside chat I had the privilege to be a part of, on IWD this year.
Lead by the inimitable and always delightful, Belinda Fry from Metcash, we had a brilliant chat about all things women at work.
Do women choose female dominated roles in corporate spaces (think: HR, marketing, etc) because it’s a natural fit for them, or is it because it’s expected, or easier, or just seems like a better fit? What do you think? Listen to the excerpt from The Difference Project interview to hear more thoughts on this ….
Kerrie Phipps wrote a book called 'Do talk to strangers'.
I love this so much. As a keen connector of human folk, I love chatting with strangers and leaving as friends.
This podcast interview was no different. I think we could have talked for hours, but don't worry, we didn't! 😜
But we did have a lovely chat about confidence, connection and continuous learning. Have a listen if this is up your alley.
Recently, I had an amazing interview with Lindsey Leigh Hobson in her first ever Evolution Training session. As leaders, managers and collaborators in the L&D space, we need to have difficult conversations... Whether we like it or not. From sharing uncomfortable, unpopular and sensitive messages, to digging into what someone actually needs when they insist on more training - the way we navigate critical conversations ultimately affects our overall impact on the business. In this interview, we revealed how to turn difficult, awkward and uncomfortable conversations into meaningful, measured and impactful results.
