The Lady Leadership Podcast… the topic is in the title, but the power is in the conversation.
What does it mean to be a lady in leadership?
Why do we care?
And, what do we need to know?
Samantha McIntyre (host extraordinaire of the podcast) and I grappled with these questions, and more.
For me, it’s mostly about understanding that the game of work has gendered rules and expectations, and we have to adjust accordingly.
Women can’t get angry, but men can show strength.
Men can’t cry, but women can show emotion.
Compassion is good, unless you’re a women, then it’s lacking in authority. Sigh.
During the discussion we covered
the factors that contribute to the gender penalty, ranging from workplace dynamics, to personal relationships
the cultural biases that uphold inequality, and
the practical strategies that create a more equitable world.
If you’re interested in how to reevaluate societal norms, and actively work towards dismantling the gender penalty, then you might like this conversation. ;)
