Power plays are the special strategies used to win a game. When it comes to the game of work, winning the game of equality, requires power plays from both men and women.
Here are some ways that men and women can advance the game of work together (lifted straight from the pages of my new book - The Gender Penalty):
๐/ ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐ซ๐ - you donโt need a PhD in gender studies to build your curiosity, compassion and courage to lean in from where youโre at. Every step counts.
๐/ ๐๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ง๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ฌ - If you see something thatโs not right, call it out, have a discussion, raise the topic. It starts with you.
๐/ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐ค๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ก - if you get pushback for raising awareness, you are on track. Pushback equals progress. Keep going.
๐/ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ง๐๐ฐ - donโt raise an issue without a possible solution. If you donโt like whatโs going on, offer something else instead. Be creative.
๐/ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐ญ๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ - Bring men and women with you on the journey. This is not a game of men against women. Itโs a game of humans against the system. We can only win, by playing on the same team.
This short video clip is an excerpt from a fireside chat I had on this very topic, during IWD this year (with the inimitable Belinda Fry from Metcash).
