IWD 2021: Here's how to #ChooseToChallenge for International Women's Day

This year's theme invites us all to challenge the status quo, challenge biased behaviours and challenge ourselves to be more inclusive.

As someone who spends a lot of time in this space, I've pulled together some practical ways to bring this challenge to life.

Enjoy!

Are you willing to accept this challenge?

1. Call out biased behaviour in others - don't be a bystander. "Hey Joe, that comment came across a bit sexist. Is that what you really meant?"

2. Stand up for those who are silenced or interrupted. "Jeremy, Anita wasn't finished. I'd like to hear the rest of her comment."

3. Include those who are overlooked or ignored. "I'd like to hear from all voices today. Hannah, what are your thoughts on this topic?"

The key to #ChoosingToChallenge is not to be challenging in manner, but challenging in spirit. Don't let the opportunity pass you by.

Build a bank of statements, responses or strategies you can use to support women in the workplace. Challenge your own silence. Challenge your own hesitation. Challenge yourself to challenge others.

Now is your moment to be a better ally. Are you up for the challenge? ;)
