The need for social connection

πŸ”Ή Have we lost the art of small talk?

πŸ”Ή Are we comfortable to sit in silence?

πŸ”Ή What's the impact of online friends versus offline friends?

These were some of the ideas I discussed with Shar Moore when interviewed on 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒓 & π‘ͺ𝒐 𝑷𝒐𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒕, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘»π’‰π’Šπ’π’Œπ’Šπ’π’ˆ π‘Ύπ’π’Žπ’‚π’ recently.

The ability to connect in small moments is almost a lost skill. The more we rely on our smart phones to remove the awkward silence and fill the 'small talk' gap, the less we are building the muscle to make connections.

And, make no mistake my friends, social interaction is a muscle we must move in order to keep it strong. Reading the room, making small talk and building rapport are all skills, and like any other skill, we must use it or lose it.

What do you think?

Are we forsaking the art of social connection and letting our devices do the heavy lifting?
