Another snippet from my conversation with Jeff Schwisow and co from the Difference Project. This time we're discussing our ability to reckon with change.
Humans have evolved to change. It's how we survive. But thriving in change requires a couple of conditions to be present. The human brain needs 𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 and 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲. We need the changes to make sense to be a part of a greater narrative that we can subscribe to. And we need the cognitive capacity to move through the change without overwhelm.
Copious amounts of confusing change is the fast track to overwhelm and cognitive shut down. Change is not the enemy, but the quality and quantity of it, can be.
