Ed Frauenheim's insights about masculinity during our Spotlighting Success Webinar, really resonated with the work I do in gender equality. Women AND men are all limited by the stereotypes that dictate our cultural norms in society. Women as ‘nice’ and emotional care takers and home makers and men as ‘strong’ and stoic bread winners and financial providers.
I loved Ed’s distinction between ‘Confined masculinity’ and ‘Liberated masculinity’. The former adheres strictly to traditional norms and roles, imposing limitations on emotional expression and relational dynamics, whilst the latter encourages men to explore diverse roles and emotions, fostering collaboration and interdependence.
This broader perspective allows men to transcend narrow definitions of masculinity, embracing a more inclusive and holistic view of themselves and their relationships.
It promotes personal growth and enriches societal understanding by acknowledging the complexity and variability within masculine identity.
And who doesn’t want more of that!
